For whom?
The course is aimed primarily for PhD students in material science, nano and microtechnology, applied physics, chemistry etc. Young researchers from UMK Center for New Materials member research groups, see http://www.umk.fi/en/activities_members.html, will generally have priority, but a few positions are reserved for students of following graduate schools: the Graduate School of Chemical Sensors and Microanalytical Systems - CHEMSEM, the Graduate School in Nanosciences and the Graduate School on New Materials and Processes

Participation is limited to 26 attendees. Organizers will choose participants based on the background information provided in the registration form, https://eage.tkk.fi/?fs/en/umk. The students accepted will be informed by email by August 15th, 2010.

Credit points
Participants will get a certificate of having passed the course signed by the Professor Kai Nordlund (University of Helsinki). Please discuss with your own professor if the course can be accepted as part of your personal PhD studies. The suggestion for credit points is three (3 cr).

General information
The course and course material are free. The course is run by Dr. Jan Sten from Trainstation, see http://www.trainstation.fi/page_1239699707188.html and Dr. Runar Törnqvist from the UMK Center for New Materials, http://www.umk.fi. Food in the get-together event and sauna will be provided by the organizers. Lunches during the day must be paid by the participants.

The course will be in English.

There will be group works where the use of own laptop is needed. Please indicate in the registration form if you can bring your own laptop.

The course is organized by the UMK Center for New Materials at the Aalto University School of Science and Technology.
